Gentoo penguin Sphen, one of many world’s well-known same-sex “energy {couples}”, died in Australia on the age of 11.
In 2018, he and his accomplice Magic fell in love at Sydney’s Sea Life Aquarium and have become international stars. They later adopted and raised two chicks.
Their romance has impressed carnival floats, been referenced in Australian training syllabuses and even appeared within the Netflix sequence Atypical.
Sea Life Sydney Aquarium mentioned the sphinx had had an “immeasurable” impression around the globe as a logo of equality and a conduit for conservation.

Gentoo penguins are a sub-Antarctic species with a mean lifespan of 12 to 13 years and are famously romantic and monogamous animals.
