Phil Lesh, bassist and co-founder of the American rock band The Grateful Lifeless, has died on the age of 84.
The musician’s official Instagram account stated he “handed away peacefully this morning.” He was surrounded by his household.
The psychedelic band was fashioned in California in 1965 and disbanded 30 years later after the loss of life of lead singer Jerry Garcia.
Lesh has been with them from the start and in 2003 went on a US reunion tour with the opposite surviving members of the band.
Lesh’s Instagram account stated he “introduced great pleasure to everybody round him and left a legacy of music and love. We ask that you simply respect the Lesh household’s privateness at the moment.”
With their distinctive mix of rock, folks, and jazz, the Grateful Lifeless are arguably probably the most influential bands in American historical past and created the soundtrack for the sixties counterculture era.
Their loyal followers, often called “Bies,” usually adopted the band from metropolis to metropolis throughout america to listen to them play.
